Installing

MD5 Validation

• You can verify the integrity of the tarball, RPM or Windows excutable you intend to install by comparing its MD5 checkum with the checksum that accompanies it on the download site.
• Linux RPMs and Windows .exe: The checksum of the file is in a file of the same name with the extra extension .md5
• Linux tarball: The checksum of tarball sunifdef_X.Y.Z.tar.gz is in the file sunifdef_X.Y.Z.md5.
• Use an MD5 utility to calculate the checksum of the file as you have got it. If the checksum you calaculate is the same as the one in the corresponding .md5 then the file you have got is the same as the one on the website.
• On a Unix or Linux system run man md5 to learn how to calculate an MD5 checksum. To find a selection of MD5 checksum utilities for Windows enter "md5 windows" in your search engine.

Linux tarball

• Download the tarball to a location under your home directory
• Extract the directory sunifdef from the tarball. Do not rename it.
• To install from source:
  • Open a command console and cd into the sunifdef directory
  • Run ./configure
  • If all is well, run make
  • If all is well, run make check if you want to run the test scripts. N.B. This will take a long time. If the make check is successful it will print

    All 3 tests passed

  • If make check fails, capture its output and send it with a bug report.
  • Run make install
• To test that Sunifdef is installed:
  • Run sunifdef -v, and expect output like:

    sunifdef, version 3.1 for Unix (built May 21 2007, 18:40:05)
    sunifdef: progress 0x10b90: Completed, exit code 0x00

  • Run man sunifdef, and expect to see the sunifdef man page.

Linux RPM

• Download the binary RPM sunifdef-X.Y.Z-N.i586.rpm
• If you wish to install the sunifdef sources on your system, then also download the source RPM sunifdef-X.Y.Z-N.src.rpm.
• Your Linux system probably provides a graphical installer for RPMs. In that case just click on the RPM to invoke the graphical installer.
• To install the binary RPM from the commandline, run rpm –ivh sunifdef-X.Y.Z-N.i586.rpm, and likewise for the source RPM. To upgrade an existing installation replace the -i option with -U. Consult man rpm for documentation.

Windows

• Download the Windows binary sunifdef.exe.X.Y.Z to a location of your choice.
• Rename it to sunifdef.exe to make it executable.
• If neccessary, modify the PATH environment variable on your system to include the path where sunifdef.exe is located. (You will need to be logged in as an administrator to do this).
• To test that Sunifdef is installed, run sunifdef -v, and expect output like:

  sunifdef, version 3.1 for Windows (built May 21 2007, 18:40:05)
  sunifdef: progress 0x10b90: Completed, exit code 0x00
